As Election Day 2008 winds down, our country heads into a new era. When I started this post, neither McCain or Obama had conceded the race or claimed victory (roughly 9:50 pm CT), but now the results are forgone.
Other than his attitude on foreign policy and his energy policy (and, I must mention - his logo and font choice), there's not much I agree with Obama on. However, as a person who grew up watching the news and being observant of history, I do feel proud that the United States will have an African American as its next president.
Did it really take 40+ years after Martin Luther King, Jr. for this to happen? That length of time is shameful. We should have arrived at this point much sooner.
We now walk in a new America. I am hopeful for America's good name to be restored internationally. Certainly there are challenges ahead. Let's see if the promised hope comes to fruition.
