VW's "brand character"

OK, so now we've seen a few ads of VW's new campaign of "German Engineering."

Personification, using a base model Beetle from the '50s (in basic black, no less) that hosts a "talk show," and speaks in a "zthick zhghaamaahn eccent..."

Meh.

The ad for the new Tiguan (you can't even hear the name clearly) and the Brook Shields ad for the Routon try too hard to be funny.

As an aside, VeeDub's product naming lately is suck-a-riffic.

The Tiguan ad, after seeing it about 10 times this weekend while watching college football and the last game at Yankee Stadium is now instant anathema. It's about as annoying as that god-awful ESPN ad with the newly-wed DB dreamily "setting his fantasy roster" via cell phone on top of a horse on the beach.
